Description

Abstraction/Simplification in Painting

Develop your own Visual language through Abstraction and Simplification

Learn how to reduce and simplify the visual form. Explore abstraction in still life, interiors, the figure, portrait and landscape painting.

Abstracting is a term usually used in connection with something. You can’t abstract from nothing. On this course we define abstracting as a sense of “reducing” or simplifying, working with the figure and the tangible world around us.

Learn how to convert the complexity of the world around us into a simple forms. You’ll use a variety of materials and techniques, experimenting with different mediums to push the boundaries of the familiar. In the process, develop your own language and vision and become more confident in your independent practice.

We’ll look at artists’ practices from ancient masters to contemporary artists and consider how modernist theories paved the way for contemporary art.

A challenging dynamic course, ideal for those with experience or open to a challenge.
