Mezzotint Engraving Weekend
Come and discover the velvety tones and deep black of mezzotint engraving in this two day workshop.
On Saturday morning the process will be clearly explained and we will cover all the technical aspects of working on the plate, starting with the preparation of the surface and covering the use of scrapers and burnishers to obtain an image.
Then you will be given a pre-prepared plate and will start work using your own reference image or one provided by your tutor.
On Sunday you will learn how to print a mezzotint and complete a small edition to take home with you.
What to bring:
Bring sketches, photos or other visual references to use as inspiration for your designs.
We have a library you can use to source an image and your tutor will advise you.
If you already own a scraper or a burnisher, bring them with you.
Materials and tools:
All essential materials will be provided.
No previous experience is required.
The workshop is open to beginners as well as experienced printmakers.
