Introduction to Drawing & Painting
This introductory drawing and painting course is intended to build the beginner’s confidence and to guide you through the building blocks of drawing and painting with oils.
You’ll begin with drawing, exploring strategies with structured exercises to help you look more effectively. Moving on from this foundation you’ll use paint and colour, working with a range of subject matter including figure and still life.

Pencils (HB, 3B)
Willow charcoal
Putty rubber
plastic eraser
Cartridge paper A1 sheets
Oil Paints:
Titanium white
Lemon yellow
Cadmium yellow
Cadmium red
Alizarin crimson
Ultramarine blue
Prussian/cerulean blue
Low odour solvent (eg sansodor/shelsol)
Palette
Palette knife
Brushes (to be discussed in class)
A couple of jars with lids
Rags/ paper towels
Apron/protective clothing
Please only bring low odour thinners with you or buy them from us. For health & safety reasons we do not allow the use of white spirit or turpentine at Heatherleys.
