Sir Alan Parker
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the great Sir Alan Parker, the legendary director of so many great films which caught the public imagination from Midnight Express in the 70’s to Evita and Angela’s Ashes and so much more. Alan’s reputation as a filmmaker is international but somehow he also found time to become, as Patron of Heatherleys, our loyal champion, generous supporter and our friend. We were twice honoured when he enrolled as one of our very own students. Studying printmaking on Saturdays with Philip Gibbs, he discovered his hitherto unexplored ability to create witty images which expressed the contagious sense of humour which was so appreciated by everyone who knew him.
We send our heartfelt sympathy to Alan’s wife Lisa and to their family. We are grateful to them for sharing him with us.
