Bonzo the Dog is a fictional cartoon character first created in 1922 by British comic strip artist and Heatherleys alumnus George E. Studdy.

George worked as a stockbroker with the Thames Iron Works but had always dreamed of going back to school. With £100 given to him by his aunt, he attended night classes at what is now The Heatherley School of Fine Art. He studied drawing at Heatherleys as well as studying animal anatomy at Calderon’s Animal School. With these skills he created the infamous Bonzo the Dog.
